Thanks for the description. I'm going to take my oath on April 1st (ha!) Mine will be in Spokane, WA so there will probably be many people there. After reading your post I think I should be prepared to be there a loooong time.

By the way, many "immigrants" know the Pledge of Allegiance better than many Americans. We also tend to know more US history and governmental facts than many Americans. :-) (-re: "I could only guess that they fumbled along as everyone else in the courtroom recited it verbatim.")

Enjoyed your blog!

Eva,

Happy to have been a help. I can't say for sure that all oath ceremonies are the same, however. Juneau is relatively small, only about 30,000 people, and I can easily imagine other districts naturalizing many more than 38 people at a time. Still, I wouldn't expect they'd make you sit there all day. Good luck and congratulations!

(By the way, your oath ceremony is going to take place on my birthday -- neat coincidence!)

Thank you, thank you! I have searched the web at this late hour (just came home from work) to find a description of an oath of allegiance ceremony. I am going to mine Friday Sept. 7, and need to let my employer know about how long it will take.

My congratulations to Oksana! I am from Norway, and just cannot wait to become a U.S. citizen. Now I know what to expect, and I also know that my family will be able to attend - two of them will be a few minutes late for my 11:15 AM appointment, but that sounds like it will be OK.

Thank you again for such a descriptive narrative of such a solemn occasion.
